Mufakose 1 High School’s Blazers team proudly represented Zimbabwe at the International Korfball Championship held in the Netherlands from 31 October to 2 November 2025, marking a historic milestone as the school’s first appearance at a global tournament of this scale.
Head Coach Angeline Kashangura said the Blazers performed exceptionally well despite being newcomers.
“Our players were given time to familiarise themselves with the grounds and some of the teams since it was their first time competing at this level,” she said. “They showed great determination and adaptability throughout.”
The team participated in two training sessions and two friendly matches ahead of the main competition — one against a local Dutch club and another against Singapore. These warm-up games helped the students build confidence and adjust to international play.

The Blazers went on to draw 7–7 against Singapore and delivered strong performances against top teams such as Canada, losing only by narrow margins.
Off the court, players strengthened their teamwork, communication, and unity — core values of korfball. They also benefited from officiating by top-class referees, who introduced them to new rules and techniques, enhancing their understanding of the sport.
A major highlight of the tournament came when Adam Sira, one of Mufakose 1 High’s standout athletes, was named Best Male Player of the entire championship.
Coach Kashangura added, “This trip was a milestone for our school and an inspiration for future generations.
Working with Team Manager Milton Tsomondo helped so much in taking this team to this level. His dedication and support were key to our success.”
