CNRG Launches Study on Mining’s Impact on Women in Zvishavane

A team from the Centre for Natural Resource Governance is in Zvishavane, Midlands Province, conducting a study on the impacts of mining on women in the region.

The assessment is part of the Research, Dialogue and Capacity Building: Environmental Justice for Her project, which aims to document how mining activities affect women’s access to water, land, livelihoods, and health.

The initiative also seeks to amplify women’s voices and resilience strategies in mining-affected areas.

Working in partnership with the Zimbabwe Gender Commission, the CNRG team is engaging women through focus group discussions and key informant interviews.

“Our objective is to gather evidence that can strengthen advocacy for gender-responsive and accountable mining governance. Women are disproportionately affected by mining activities, and their perspectives must guide policy and decision-making,” CNRG said.

The project aims to generate actionable insights to support community-led solutions and ensure that women’s rights are central in the management of mining resources.

“By documenting the lived experiences of women in mining communities, we hope to highlight gaps in current governance and promote interventions that safeguard their health, livelihoods, and access to essential resources,” CNRG added.
