
Zim Now correspondent Gilbert Munetsi has been recognised among Zimbabwe’s top journalists, after being named Runner-Up for News Reporter of the Year at the 2025 National Journalism and Media Awards hosted by the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Harare.
Though unable to attend the ceremony due to prior commitments, Munetsi shared his gratitude in a message that reflected both humility and passion for his craft.
“Truly humbled and thrilled to have been nominated for the Runner-up News Reporter of the Year at the National Journalism and Media Awards hosted by the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists at the Crowne Plaza last night,” he said.

He saluted the United States of America Embassy in Harare for sponsoring the category.
Munetsi dedicated the award to colleagues saying, “… the amazing, passionate team at @Zim Now — your energy, creativity, and dedication keep the flame burning”
The accolade highlights Munetsi’s stature as one Zimbabwe’s most consistent field reporters, known for his balanced storytelling and attention to under-reported stories that shape everyday life.
Zim Now Managing Editor Monica Cheru congratulated Munetsi, describing the recognition as “a testament to the team’s commitment to credible, people-centred journalism that informs and uplifts.”
