12 Malaria Deaths Recorded from Over 3,000 Cases Nationwide

 

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has confirmed that 3,021 malaria cases and 12 related deaths were recorded across the country in its weekly disease surveillance report for the week ending 5 October 2025.

The fatalities were reported in several provinces, with Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare Metropolitan Province recording one death. Mashonaland East Province reported four deaths from Goromonzi, Mudzi, and Murehwa districts, while Matabeleland North’s Binga District recorded one. 

Manicaland Province reported the highest number of fatalities, with Chimanimani, Makoni, Mutare, and Nyanga districts accounting for a combined total of five deaths. 

Mashonaland West’s Zvimba District and Matabeleland South’s Beitbridge District each reported one death.

According to the Ministry, out of the total malaria cases reported, 363 — representing 12 percent — were among children under the age of five. 

The provinces that recorded the highest number of cases were Mashonaland East with 1,202 cases and Mashonaland Central with 895 cases.

The Ministry further noted that cumulative figures for the year now stand at 147,556 malaria cases and 401 deaths.

Health officials have urged communities, especially those in high-risk areas, to continue using mosquito nets, seek early treatment for fever-related illnesses, and participate in ongoing malaria prevention campaigns.
