
ANTUM Naqvi scored a solid half century as Zimbabwe ‘A’ were bowled out for 192 runs on the first day of their three day match against the visiting Marylebone Cricket Club at Old Hararians Sports Club yesterday.
Naqvi was the top scorer with 68 runs from 105 balls, hitting 11 fours. His innings helped Zimbabwe ‘A’ reach a fair total after losing early wickets. Captain Roy Kaia won the toss and chose to bat first.
Openers Innocent Kaia and Tanunurwa Makoni gave a good start, adding 38 runs before Innocent was trapped lbw by Jasper Davidson for 17.
Makoni was bowled by Matthew Wareing for 23 soon after. The middle order then struggled, with Wessly Madhevere scoring only 3 and skipper Kaia falling for 2, leaving the hosts on 77 for four.
Naqvi then joined hands with Tadiwanashe Marumani to put on 57 runs for the fifth wicket. Marumani was caught for 23, and later, Tafadzwa Tsiga scored 29 before falling lbw to Michael Frost.

After Naqvi was caught at slip off Frost’s bowling, the tailenders failed to add many runs as Zimbabwe ‘A’ were bowled out in 51 overs. Frost took 3 for 27, while Wareing claimed 2 for 15 and Mohammad Rizvi 2 for 33.
MCC made a strong reply, reaching 104 for two wickets at the close of play.
Michael Frost batted well to finish unbeaten on 61, while his brother Alistair Frost was 24 not out.
Tinotenda Maposa took both wickets for Zimbabwe ‘A’, removing Sam Arthurton for 10 and Daniel da Costa for 6.
At stumps, MCC were trailing by 88 runs with eight wickets in hand.
Game continued today with Zimbabwe ‘A’ hoping for early wickets to get back into the game.
