A former Premier Soccer League footballer, Tumirai Matsika 29, also known as Brian Abbas Amidu, today appeared before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court facing charges of trafficking 780 kilogrammes of dagga worth US$78 000.
Matsika was arrested together with Kudzai Mhlanga 41 also known as Reuben Mhlanga, after detectives intercepted a silver Honda Fit Shuttle loaded with 75 packets of dagga wrapped in black plastic along the Kwekwe–Kadoma Highway near the Gokwe turn-off.
Prosecutor told the court that police received a tip-off on October 4 indicating that the duo was transporting dagga from Kwekwe to Harare.
Acting on the information, detectives set up a surveillance operation and pounced on the suspects while they were loading the drugs into the vehicle.

Upon searching the car, officers found 780 kilogrammes of dagga concealed in shrink-wrapped packets, leading to the pair’s immediate arrest.
Investigations revealed that both accused persons, who are unemployed, frequently use multiple aliases to evade detection and are believed to be part of a wider drug trafficking network.
The court heard that Matsika is already facing similar charges at the Epworth Magistrates’ Court under case number CRB EPW 407/25 and at Harare Central Police Station under CR 636/03/25.
Both accused were remanded in custody to October 7 for bail application.
