Zimbabwe Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba has stepped up efforts to fight drug abuse among young people through his support for Njube Spurs, a junior football club from his childhood neighbourhood in Bulawayo.
According to Nehanda Radio, Luton Town midfielder has been sponsoring the team by providing playing kits, balls, and other essential resources. His father, Anthony Nakamba, is often spotted cheering the youngsters at their home matches played at the Desert Ground.
The project is already showing promise. Spurs’ Under-17 side is enjoying a stellar season in the ZIFA Bulawayo Junior League, sitting top of the table with 56 points—eight ahead of second-placed Tigers FC, with six games to go.

Speaking from the UK, Nakamba said he was proud of the team’s achievements and their discipline off the pitch
“It’s a wonderful feeling to see Spurs’ Under-17s doing so well. This is an age group where many young people fall into drugs, but these boys have chosen to stay focused on football. That dedication has kept them away from harmful habits.”
Nakamba added that the progress of the Njube Spurs project was not just about winning matches but also about creating a positive pathway for young players.
In July 2024, through the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation, he donated four full sets of kits and soccer balls to the club, further strengthening his commitment to youth development and drug abuse prevention.
