419 ZPCS Officers Promoted

A total of 419 commissioned officers of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service were formally conferred with their new badges of rank today, following promotions approved by President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa effective September 24.

Deputy Commissioner-General Christine Manetswa Manhivi, who heads Support Services, presided over the ceremony. The extensive promotion list included three Assistant Commissioners, five Chief Superintendents, sixteen Superintendents, seventy Chief Correctional Officers, and 325 Principal Correctional Officers.

DCG Manhivi highlighted the organization's commitment to constitutional principles of equality, noting that the promoted commissioned cohort was composed of 312 male and 107 female officers, reflecting management's dedication to equal opportunities.

In her address, DCG Manhivi underscored the serious nature of the elevation, cautioning that rank is not a privilege but a mandate for greater responsibility and accountability. She specifically challenged the newly promoted officers to lead with distinction, emphasizing that their merit-based promotion demands innovative and creative ideas to accelerate ZPCS's institutional goals.

"You must lead by example and ensure that there is zero tolerance to indiscipline and laziness so that you earn a model status," DCG Manhivi asserted.

The ceremony also served as a prelude to a wider institutional uplift, as DCG Manhivi announced that an additional 1,669 Non-Commissioned Officers have been promoted by the Commissioner-General and will be officially conferred at their respective bases in due course.

The DCG further implored the officers to actively promote cohesion, reaffirming the identity of 'Team ZPCS', and to combat drug and substance abuse within their ranks and the communities they serve. She concluded by urging officers who were not successful in this round not to "despair" but to remain steadfast in their allegiance and service to the nation.
