Tony Blair linked to transitional authority in Gaza as world awaits defiant Netanyau speech at UNGA

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is reported to be in discussions with US officials about heading a transitional authority in Gaza should a ceasefire be reached, according to the BBC and Financial Times.

The proposal, linked to post-war governance plans, has surfaced as US President Donald Trump reportedly ruled out annexation of the West Bank, insisting instead on a new administrative framework for Gaza. Two Israeli sources told CNN that Trump wants Blair to oversee an interim governing body, supported by a Palestinian committee and an international supervisory board.

“Washington appears to be warming to the idea of Blair leading the transition,” the BBC reported, citing officials familiar with the talks. The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change has not yet commented on the reports.

Blair, who led Britain from 1997 to 2007 and controversially took the country into the Iraq war, already raised eyebrows in August when he joined a White House summit on Gaza’s future. While details of that meeting were not made public, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff told Fox News at the time that the administration was working on a “comprehensive plan” for Gaza once fighting ends.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly at 15:00 CAT, where the Gaza crisis and regional security are expected to feature prominently.
