Two Vietnamese Women Remanded in Custody for Human Trafficking

Two Vietnamese women have been remanded in custody by the Harare Magistrates’ Court on allegations of human trafficking and overstaying in Zimbabwe.

The accused, Huu Dao Phan ,28, and Thi My Quyen Duong ,26, allegedly lured a fellow Vietnamese national to Zimbabwe under the pretext of lucrative employment as a massage therapist.

The complainant arrived in Zimbabwe on August 14 and allegedly had her passport confiscated by the duo.

They reportedly made her work at several massage parlours without payment.

It is further alleged that the two forced the complainant to continue working while she was unwell and assaulted her, leaving her with bruises on her face.

The injuries prompted her to make a police report.

The pair also allegedly overstayed in the country beyond the stipulated 30 days on their visas, which expired on September 13, and failed to renew their permits.

They were remanded in custody and are expected to appear in court again on September 26 for routine remand.
