Thieves repeatedly target spare parts dealer over three months

The trio that stands accused of duplicating keys to a warehouse and stealing motor spare parts worth US40 600 over a period of 6 months being escorted to court

A Harare spare parts dealer had his warehouse gradually cleaned out of spare parts valued just above US$40 000 by three men who unlocked and entered at will from September to December.

Roy Matika, 31, Charles Chihota, 35, Farai Mukanjari, 31, apparently duplicated keys to Livinus Ubenye's warehouse.

In the period from September 1, to December 2 this year, the trio would simply unlock and walk in to help themselves to a range of vehicle spare parts.

After Ubenye discovered the theft and made a police report for goods valued at US$40 600.

Investigations led to the arrest of the three men. Police managed to recover stuff worth only US$560.

Matika, Chihota, and Mukanjari were arraigned this past Wednesday at the Harare Magistrates' Court for unlawful entry, violating Section 131(1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

Magistrate Dennis Mangosi who presided over the case remanded them to December 28 for bail hearing.
