Zimbabwe modernises immigration with mandatory online arrival forms for visitors

The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) has introduced a new digital immigration procedure designed to streamline the entry process for travelers and strengthen the country’s border management systems. With immediate effect, all non-resident visitors to Zimbabwe are required to complete their arrival forms online before departure. This marks the official end of the paper-based system that has long been in place, and signals Zimbabwe’s commitment to embracing digital solutions in line with global travel standards.

While iPads will be available at immigration checkpoints for those who have not yet filled in the online forms, the ACZ strongly advises visitors to complete the process in advance in order to avoid delays and long queues upon arrival.

The new procedure applies strictly to visitors, while Zimbabwean residents will continue to follow separate arrangements. Citizens holding the new e-passports can now take advantage of the modern eGate system, which allows for quick and seamless entry through automated processing. Those still using old-format passports are required to go through the traditional immigration process; however, they are not required to complete the online form and will continue to have their passports manually stamped by immigration officers.

This transition is part of a wider national strategy to modernise Zimbabwe’s aviation and immigration services, enhance border security, and deliver a smoother experience for all travelers. By shifting to a digital-first approach, the ACZ aims to minimise congestion at points of entry and align Zimbabwe’s airports with international best practices in travel facilitation.

In announcing the change, an ACZ spokesperson described the initiative as an important milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey, highlighting that it reflects the government’s commitment to efficiency, convenience, and security at all airports. The ACZ has encouraged all travelers visiting Zimbabwe to familiarise themselves with the new system and to complete the necessary forms online before travelling in order to ensure a hassle-free arrival experience.
