Mechanic Accused of Selling Client’s Car Parts

A 53-year-old mechanic from Churu Farm has appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of theft of trust property after allegedly selling car parts entrusted to him for repairs.

Morgan Musiiwa appeared before magistrate Apollonia Marutya and was granted US$100 bail.

Prosecutor Takudzwa Mutyavaviri told the court that sometime in 2021, on an unknown date along Kaguvi Street, the complainant gave Musiiwa a Mitsubishi Chariot for repairs after it developed a mechanical fault.

Musiiwa allegedly advised that the vehicle’s engine was beyond repair and suggested replacing it with one from a Toyota Corolla, which the complainant then provided.

Instead of carrying out the agreed repairs, Musiiwa allegedly sold the body of the Toyota Corolla along with the gearboxes of both vehicles, without the complainant’s knowledge or consent.

The missing parts, valued at US$3 100, were never recovered.

The matter only came to light on September 12, when the complainant visited the mechanic to check on the progress and discovered the parts were missing.

A police report was filed, leading to Musiiwa’s arrest.
