Police Release Names of Victims in Masvingo-Beitbridge Road Tragedy

 

 

The Zimbabwe Republic Police have released the names of seven people who died in a fatal road traffic accident along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on September 12, 2025. 

The accident, which occurred at the 175 km peg around 02:45 hours, involved a Yutong bus, a Toyota Aqua, and a Toyota Dyna truck.

ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the details:

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident involving three vehicles, a Yutong bus, a Toyota Aqua, and a Toyota Dyna truck.

"Seven people died and 15 others were injured after a motorist driving a Yutong bus with 48 passengers on board towards Beitbridge collided head-on with a Toyota Aqua, which had five passengers, and a Toyota Dyna with two occupants, both travelling towards Masvingo.”

The deceased were identified by their next of kin as:

  • Leopold Mudiwa Mukwderure ,43, male, Waterfalls, Harare
  • Fortune Edington Chitaka ,21, male, Waterfalls, Harare
  • Brandon Sibongile Chikasha ,24, male, Waterfalls, Harare
  • Dumisani Gohwe, male, Seke, Chitungwiza
  • Shingirirai Chadya ,21, male, Chinamuka, Uzumba
  • Preston Mataga ,24,  male, Chihota
  • Shepherd Manangazira ,35, male, Zowa Farm, Zvimba

Police said the fatalities included two passengers from the bus, three occupants from the Toyota Aqua (including its driver), and two from the Toyota Dyna (including its driver). 

Fifteen other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities. Investigations are still underway.

In a message of sympathy, the police said: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We appeal to drivers to seriously consider road safety while traveling on the country’s roads.”
