Smuggling Scandal Exposes Security Breach at BAK Logistics

A smuggling cover-up has rocked BAK Logistics after a supervisor allegedly helped syndicates loot goods from an impounded truck under the watch of the Anti-Smuggling Task Force.

Edward Chirongwe, a security supervisor from Hopley, is accused of working with colleagues Earthrage Ruziwa and Rejoice Chikowore, along with fugitive Daniel Mushayabasa and six unidentified men, to remove goods from a truck that had been seized for inspection by ZIMRA.

Investigations revealed that Chirongwe instructed his team to allow vehicles in and out of the premises without checks.

Surveillance footage later confirmed that several vehicles entered and exited during the period, while the containers were found with broken seals, changed locks, and missing goods.

Authorities eventually arrested Ruziwa and Chikowore while on duty, while Chirongwe was picked up in Hopley. A total of US$1 040, believed to be proceeds from the operation, was recovered from his room.

The investigation into the smuggling ring is ongoing.
