Zimbabwe have secured their place in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, to be held in Nepal early next year.
The team clinched their spot after a tense semi-final victory over Uganda in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Division One Qualifier.
This achievement marks a significant step for Zimbabwe, who have never qualified for a women’s World Cup in any format before.
The global qualifier, scheduled from January 12 to February 2 in Kathmandu, will feature ten teams competing for four coveted berths at the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup in England.
Zimbabwe will line up against established sides such as Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Thailand, and the Netherlands, along with hosts Nepal and the USA. The competition will see the teams split into two groups, with the top six progressing to the Super Six stage and ultimately vying for a place in the final.
For Zimbabwe, the victory over Uganda not only secured their spot in the global qualifier but also gave them a chance to contest the Africa regional final on September 6.
With the 2026 edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup expanding to 12 teams for the first time, Zimbabwe’s breakthrough offers fresh hope of making history on the world stage.
