Man in Court for Four Violent Robberies

A 36-year-old man has been arraigned before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing four counts of robbery after allegedly committing a series of break-ins in Borrowdale, Harare.

The accused, John Chagwiza ,36, is alleged to have stolen electronic devices, cash, and other valuables from four different households between July 20 and July 26.

The State told the court that on July 20, at around 2000 hours, at Number 94 Marydown Estate, Hogerty Hill, Borrowdale, Chagwiza tied up Kundai Sunduz and his wife with shoelaces, pepper-sprayed Sunduz, and ordered him to cover his face with blankets while demanding money and phones. 

He allegedly stole US$311, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPad Pro, MacBook Pro 13, Apple AirPods, five perfumes, an Apple Watch Series 6, another Apple Watch, a JBL speaker, an Acer laptop, a Samsung phone, Awaken vaporizer, a Sony camera, and an electric shaver.

On July 23, at around 0200 hours, again at Number 94 Marydown Estate, Hogerty Hill, Chagwiza allegedly threatened to kill Tanatswa Sigudu with a screwdriver, covered his face with a blanket, and stole an iPhone 12 Pro, Dell laptop, Huawei P40 Lite, black Itel power bank, white power bank, and an HP ProBook.

The court also heard that on July 24, at around 0215 hours, at Number 90 Marydown Estate, Hogerty Hill, Borrowdale, Chagwiza allegedly assaulted Pamela Mudzudzo with open hands before stealing a Samsung S23 Mini, Huawei P40, Infinix Note 8, Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, a mouse touchpad, and groceries.

On July 26, at around 0300 hours, Chagwiza allegedly went to Number 18 Liora Estate, Borrowdale, where he tied Keith Chikwanha and his wife with a laptop charging cable, threatened to hit Chikwanha with a baton stick, and stole US$2 710, an iPhone 16, an iPhone 15, and an HP laptop.
