Dynamos breathed new life into their fight for survival in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after securing a crucial 2-0 victory over Green Fuel at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

The win marks a significant turning point for the Harare giants, who have been battling to avoid relegation.

Goals from Jairos Kasondo early in the second half and a composed penalty from Temptation Chiwunga sealed a third consecutive league triumph for Dynamos, making it five wins overall this campaign.

Despite still sitting second from bottom, the 22-time champions have now closed the gap to safety to just three points, with their tally rising to 25.

The result also marked their fifth straight victory in all competitions under coach Kelvin Kaindu, restoring belief among the Glamour Boys’ faithful as the league heads into its final stretch. It was a perfect weekend for the country’s big three, as CAPS United and Highlanders also secured wins.

Highlanders edged Bikita Minerals 2-1, with a first-half penalty converted by Nigerian import Benjamin Adeogun and a 44th-minute strike from Reason Sibanda.

In another thrilling encounter, MWOS staged a dramatic comeback against Manica Diamonds at Sakubva Stadium. After trailing to Anelka Chivandire’s 77th-minute strike, MWOS refused to give in.

Just when it seemed all over, Wilson Mensah struck a last-gasp equaliser in the 94th minute to keep their title chase alive.

With only eight games remaining, every point counts. For clubs battling at both ends of the table, the pressure is only beginning to intensify. For the relegation-threatened traditional giants, this weekend’s maximum points provided a crucial lifeline.

Whether Dynamos can build on their momentum and escape the drop remains to be seen.
