Chahwanda Stadium Project Wins Caf Praise

CAF stadium inspector Muhammad Feizal Sidat has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction of Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe, describing it as a facility well on track to meet Category 2 standards.

Category 2 certification allows stadiums to host CAF Confederation Cup and Champions League preliminary fixtures, along with U-17 and U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Sidat, a former CAF head of stadium inspections, was in Kwekwe this week for his second progress review of the project.

The 15,000-capacity arena is being built with a range of modern features, including 24 accommodation rooms, 12 commercial outlets, bucket seats, electronic turnstiles, as well as updated medical, anti-doping and dressing room facilities.

Following his two-hour inspection tour — from the outer sections of the venue to the main pitch area — Sidat commended the visible improvements since his last visit.

“The stadium is advancing well and has responded positively to recommendations we made earlier. The upgrades are clear, and the project is moving toward full compliance with Category 2 requirements,” he said.

He added that while the venue will cater for local Premier Soccer League and national matches, its design gives it potential to achieve higher CAF categories in the future.

Construction of Chahwanda Stadium is expected to be completed by year-end.
