Zimbabwe and Rwanda have taken a significant step toward deepening bilateral relations following high-level engagements in Kigali ahead of the 3rd Session of the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation Ministerial Meeting, scheduled for August 6.
The Zimbabwean delegation, led by Chief Director of Political Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Mr. Pearson Chigiji, participated in preparatory discussions that focused on reviewing existing agreements and identifying new areas of collaboration.
“Zimbabwe is committed to transforming these engagements into tangible outcomes. We commend the hospitality extended by the Government of Rwanda,” said Mr. Chigiji.
Rwanda’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ms. Clementine Mukeka, reaffirmed her country’s commitment to strengthening ties with Zimbabwe.
“We are pleased to welcome Zimbabwe’s delegation. Rwanda values its partnership with Zimbabwe, and we are ready to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, agriculture, education, and health,” she said.
The engagements reviewed progress on previously signed agreements and evaluated draft Memoranda of Understanding in sectors including energy, science and technology, health, education, and investment promotion.
Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof. Amon Murwira, arrived in Kigali to lead the country’s delegation during the ministerial segment.
“This visit is a demonstration of Zimbabwe’s unwavering dedication to advancing mutual cooperation and fostering regional integration,” said Prof. Murwira.
Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Prof. Charity Manyeruke, described the engagements as fruitful.
“These deliberations have maintained momentum from previous sessions. We expect strong outcomes aligned with our national development objectives,” she said.
The upcoming ministerial meeting is expected to culminate in the signing of new cooperation agreements aimed at strengthening Zimbabwe-Rwanda relations and promoting sustainable development.
