Families shattered as mother and son, father and daugher perish Chitungwiza road crash

 

A mother and son, a father and daughter lost as communities mourn intergenerational tragedies

 

In one devastating moment, a road crash in Chitungwiza stole entire generations from two families. Letwin Hwingwiri, 52, died alongside her teenage son Talent, 18. Rainford Jere, 29, was killed with his 3-year-old daughter Shantel in the same collision. 

The crash, which claimed 17 lives in total, left gaping wounds in St Mary’s, Nyatsime, and beyond—not just for lives lost, but for futures erased.

The road carnage did not choose age or gender as 9 men and 8 women perished with victims spanning 3 to 63 years old.

But young people made up most of the victims including Wishby Nganima, 19, who was a student, Chitungwiza Polytechnic, Samantha Taderera, 27, a teacher at Zimre Park Primary, Frederick Jumo, 39 – a Netone IT technician, and Prodigas Mugere, 37, a shopkeeper, St Mary's Market

Chitungwiza accounted for over half the deaths, with St Mary’s, Nyatsime, and Unit P hardest hit. 

Police have said that investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing but hinted at possible driver error.
