The Zimbabwe Women’s national cricket team has departed for Ireland ahead of a five-match white-ball series that will see them face off in both T20 and One-Day International formats.
The tour marks their first international outing since their historic visit to the United States in April and plays a crucial role in their build-up to the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division One.
Led by veteran batter Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, the 15-member squad left Harare on Wednesday evening brimming with confidence and purpose.
The squad features experienced players including wicketkeeper-batters Modester Mupachikwa and Chiedza Dhururu, dependable all-rounder Loreen Tshuma, and left-arm seamer Nomvelo Sibanda, all of whom have been consistent performers on the international stage.
Emerging talent also makes up a significant portion of the touring party. Young stars such as Kelis Ndhlovu and Beloved Biza are among a group of promising players eager to seize their opportunity under the spotlight. Other squad members include Francesca Chipare, Kudzai Chigora, Nyasha Gwanzura, Tendai Makusha, Lindokuhle Mabhero, Mitchel Mavunga, Vimbai Mutungwindu, and Runyararo Pasipanodya, all ready to contribute to Zimbabwe’s campaign.
The tour opens with three T20 Internationals in Dublin, scheduled for July 20, 22, and 23. The team will then travel to Belfast for two One-Day Internationals on July 26 and 28.
The matches are expected to provide vital preparation and team cohesion ahead of the Africa Qualifier tournament in Namibia, set to take place from August 31 to September 6.
