A Chinese national has appeared in court facing charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

Zheng Chunping ,33, appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Courts accused of possessing methylenedioxymethamphetamine.

The State alleges that on July 11 at around 6:30 a.m., detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics, Harare, received a tip-off that Chunping was dealing in methylenedioxymethamphetamine at his residence.

At around 7:30 a.m. the same day, detectives proceeded to Peackwood Village along Cecil Road, a gated community where the accused resides.

An ambush was set at the main gate. When Chunping arrived driving a black BMW X6, registration number AGF 1777, detectives intercepted him, identified themselves, and explained the purpose of their visit.

A search was conducted, leading to the recovery of one sachet of suspected methylenedioxymethamphetamine from his pocket and another from the driver’s side door panel.

A further search was conducted at his residence, but nothing was recovered.

Chunping was arrested and taken to CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare along with the seized substances. Subsequent tests confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine, with a combined weight of approximately 4 grammes.
