Two Kambuzuma bottle store cashiers accused of using their boss’ password to manipulate sales system and steal almost US$6000 have been granted bail of ZWL$20 000 each.

Garikai Nyamadzawo ,37, of Glen Norah A, Harare and Israel Zvorunofura, of Kambuzuma, Section 3, Harare appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court accused of fraud amounting to US$ 5 972.36 from their employer.

The complainant, Christopher Maramba, 59, of Section 3, Kambuzuma, Harare is a bottle store owner and the two accused were employed as cashiers.

The state case is that Maramba installed a software called Retail-Man to manage shop operations.

Maramba’s supervisor access made him the only one with authority to change stock prices among other roles.

Nyamadzawo and Zvorunofura only had access to enter sales.

The two somehow got Maramba’s password and used it access the system and reduce prices on certain products.

The two cashiers then sold the products at the actual prices. They would then hand over cash as per system reduced report and pocket the difference.

After that they would change the prices back to normal prices so as to hide the offence from the employer.

On noting depressed sales figures from May 2022 to August 2022, Maramba checked the software and realised that his supervisor account was being logged into when he was not online.

Maramba made a report to the police leading to the arrest of Nyamadzawo and Zvorunofura on December 5, 2022.

Nothing was recovered. The two were remanded out of custody on ZWL$20 000 bail each.
