A delegation of 22 Zimbabwean media professionals recently visited the Shanghai Media Group, China's largest media organization, to gain insights into innovative approaches to news production and technology. The tour highlighted the potential for Zimbabwean media organizations to adopt similar technologies and approaches, enhancing their content delivery and audience engagement.

The delegation was particularly impressed by the Shanghai Media Group's AI-powered control room, which enables real-time language translation for news anchors. This feature allows for seamless translation into multiple languages, including English, French, Portuguese, and Chinese. According to the tour guide, this technology could be adapted to cater to local languages in various regions.

The media group also showcased its flexible sports viewing software, enabling audiences to watch matches on both mobile and television screens. "Most viewers these days prefer mobile viewing, so we developed software that caters to their interests," said the tour guide.

Another key takeaway from the visit was the importance of concise storytelling. The media group creates short videos under 2 minutes, recognizing that modern viewers prefer bite-sized content. "Viewers don't like long videos; they want to save data and time," explained the tour guide.

By embracing AI and innovative technologies, Zimbabwean media organizations can enhance their content delivery, audience engagement, and overall competitiveness.
