Speaking at the signing ceremony where 32 countries brought the convention to life, Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Professor Amon Murwira, said the country sees IOMed as a cornerstone of development and a transformative instrument in the global peace architecture.
He referenced Section 12 of Zimbabwe’s Constitution, which affirms the country’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes and to building a just society.
Murwira praised Chinese President Xi Jinping’s instrumental leadership in establishing IOMed, noting that it has provided noteworthy guidance in advancing a global institution that reflects the significant geopolitical shifts shaping the 21st century.
Underscoring Zimbabwe’s commitment to multilateralism, Murwira emphasized that IOMed’s foundation rests on the sovereign equality of all nations—big or small, rich or poor.
Murwira closed his remarks by reiterating Zimbabwe’s full support for the work and vision of IOMed.
Zimbabwe's ambassador to China, HE Abigail Shoniwa, also attended the event, signaling Zimbabwe's commitment to the IOMed vision.
