The fraud trial of businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu resumes today (Friday) with former Permanent Secretary for Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr. John Basera, set to continue his testimony.

Basera, the ex-Agriculture PS, took the stand on Thursday after the trial adjourned earlier in the week. He testified before the court that Moses Mpofu signed the disputed contract related to the alleged $7 million fraud, although both Mpofu and Mike Chimombe were present during key meetings.
The State will lead further evidence from Dr. Basera today as the trial enters a critical phase, focusing on establishing the roles of both accused in the high-profile case. The duo faces charges of defrauding the government through the Presidential Goat Pass On Scheme.
Professor Lovemore Madhuku, who is leading defense said they would present their arguments during cross-examination."
Chimombe and Mpofu were arrested last year over allegations involving more than US$7 million intended for the government agricultural scheme. Today's continuation of Basera's evidence is pivotal to the State's case.
