The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter between Scottland FC and Chicken Inn FC, played this afternoon, at Rufaro Stadium, was abruptly abandoned.

The Premier Soccer League has since released a statement confirming the abandonment and outlining the next steps.

In a press release signed by Communications and Media Liaison Officer, Kudzai Bare, the PSL stated:

"The Premier Soccer League wishes to advise its stakeholders that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Scottland FC and Chicken Inn FC, which was played on Friday 23 May 2025 at Rufaro Stadium was abandoned.

We await the Match Commissioner and Referees reports on this matter for determination in accordance with the PSL Rules and Regulations. Furthermore both Clubs will be requested to submit written reports on the events that transpired.

The PSL regrets any inconvenience caused to its members, stakeholders and partners.

No further statement will be issued until all relevant match reports are received."

This development comes amidst a backdrop of controversy surrounding a penalty awarded earlier in the match against Scottland FC, which some fans likened to a similar contentious decision in a previous game involving MWOS FC and Manica Diamonds at Ngoni Stadium. These supporters have voiced concerns about potential bias against Scottland FC, especially with their upcoming fixture at Ngoni Stadium next Sunday against MWOS FC.

"This is unbelievable! First that fair penalty, and now the game is called off.

Something is seriously wrong. #JusticeForScotlandFC," wrote one Scottland FC supporter on social media shortly after the abandonment.

The circumstances leading to the abandonment are currently unclear, but the earlier penalty incident is likely to be a central point of investigation. "It's the same script as that MWOS game. A same penalty awarded to MWOS FC against Manica Diamond, and then chaos erupts when the same penalty to Scottland FC. maybe there is something going on against Scottland FC? Next week at Ngoni is going to be a war," commented another fan.

The PSL will now rely on the reports from the match officials and the two clubs to determine the course of action, in line with their rules and regulations. "You can feel the tension building. That penalty decision clearly had a big impact, and now the abandonment... the PSL has got some serious questions to answer. What happened out there?" remarked a neutral observer.

Adding to the sentiment, one more Scottland FC fan stated, "They are trying to bully our team! This penalty, the abandonment... it all feels connected. We stand with Scotland FC!"

The premature end to the match adds another layer of intrigue to the ongoing discussions about officiating in the league, particularly following the debated penalty at Ngoni Stadium and a subsequent MWOS FC match against TelOne FC that saw two red cards being issued to TelOne FC.
