A man has been denied bail after being arraigned before the courts facing two counts of robbery and murder.
Farai Chikadzi, 51, of Rimuka, Kadoma, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrate’s Courts accused of two counts of robbery and murder.
The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges that on September 22, at around 2200 hours, the now-deceased Talkmore Vinga, who was employed as a driver at Accuride Technologies, was sent to Norton with 20 litres of diesel using a company car a white Toyota Hilux to rescue Timothy Shambare, who had a haulage truck which had ran out of fuel.
The now-deceased Vinga, refuelled the truck and the truck drove towards town while Vinga followed behind.
It stopped again at the 14km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road, near Dzivaresekwa turn-off after it had run out of fuel again.
Vinga took the remaining 10 litres of fuel and walked towards the truck.
Along the way, Vinga was approached by Chikadzi and his accomplices who are already in custody and one who is still at large.
One of the accused persons hit Vinga on the head with a stone and he fell unconscious with the diesel container falling to the ground.
Shambare, who was standing by his haulage truck saw Chikadzi attacking the deceased and armed himself with spanners, a metal bar and went towards Chikadzi, who fled the scene.
Shambare then called his employer, who came to the scene and took Vinga to Sally Mugabe Hospital where he was admitted and they reported an assault case at ZRP Kuwadzana.
On October 6, 2023, Vinga later passed on in hospital as a result of injuries sustained from the assault.
The State also alleges that on September 26, 2023 at around 0515 hours, Chikadzi and his accomplices approached the complainant, Honest Musara who had parked in his car - a Toyota Etios - along Bulawayo Road just after Kuwadzana Extension turn-off waiting for his wife, who was coming from Bulawayo.
Two of the accused greeted Musara and started talking to him and suddenly another accused appeared from another direction armed with stones.
Musara was then hit on the head with a stone after he had come out of the car to pick his wife’s bags at the bus stop.
Chikadzi, allegedly wrestled with Musara, who had fallen down, demanding his cellphone and money.
The other accused also hit Musara’s wife with a stone on her head, injuring her as well.
Chikadzi took Masara’s phone and wallet containing US$300, identity particulars, his wife’s bags and ran away.
One of the accused dropped Musara’s phone after they were now shouting calling for help.
The two complainants later reported the matter at ZRP Kuwadzana.
As a result, the value of property that was stolen is US$900 and only US$10 worth was recovered.
The court was also informed that on October 8, 2023 at around 2350 hours, complainant, Fredy Chigumira left Kuwadzana 6 Shopping Centre, intending to go home driving his Mercedes Benz ML.
He turned into Bulawayo Road facing town and briefly pulled off the road.
Immediately after parking the car, Chigumira was attacked by Chikadz,i who was with Simon Chihungwa, Tafadzwa Chayambuka and another who still at large.
One of them smashed Chigumira’s right front window with a stone, at the same time hitting him on the head, causing deep injuries that led to him bleeding profusely.
Chikadzi demanded cash and valuables and Chigumira surrendered US$1 200 which was in his pocket to one of the accused persons.
One of the accused then stole his phone Samsung S22.
During the robbery, the accused persons were disturbed by members of the Zimbabwe National Army, who had dropped off their bus from work.
The soldiers then chased after them while one of them remained giving Musara first aid.
They managed to apprehend one of his accomplices and took him together with Musara to ZRP Kuwadzana where a report was made.
Chikadzi managed to escape from the scene and has been evading from the police until his arrest.
As a result, the value that was stolen is US$1 500 and nothing was recovered.
His bail was denied and he will appear in court on December 15.
