Man lures 14 year-old with money in return for sex

A 72 year-old man has been taken to court for enticing a 14 year old girl with money for him to have sexual intercourse with her.

Sam Chadambura, 72, of Glenview 3, was brought before the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with rape.

The State alleges that in January 2022 the complainant was at home with her sister when Chadambura, whom they referred to as uncle and landlord of the house told them that when they were finished with their chores, he wanted to tell them a story he had heard on the radio.

The complainant went to look for a tin from Chadambura's and when she finished using it, she returned it to him.

He told her he wanted to sleep with her and she turned down the proposal.

He persuaded her saying that he would give her money and she told him that she was going to think about it.

The following day, Chadambura asked her if she was still thinking about his proposal to sleep with him and she agreed and consented to it.

The complainant later took a bath and entered Chadambura's bedroom where he was seated on his bed.

He removed his trousers and locked the door. He went on to remove her skirt whilst she was sleeping on his bed.

Chadambura started to caress her and had sexual intercourse with her consent.

When he finished, he gave her US$10 and she left his room, wore her uniform and left for school.

She did not tell anyone what had transpired with Chadambura. They had sexual intercourse four times with her consent and each time she was given money in return.

The case came to light at her school when she was asked by teachers who had noticed a change in her behavior which later made them to call her parents.

She later explained the ordeal to her parents who then escorted her to Harare hospital and then later to the police.

Chadambura was remanded in custody to May 23.
