A woman who nearly convinced an unsuspecting man to purchase a non-existent piece of land for US$300 000 after she and her associates had lied that they were selling a commercial stand has appeared in court.
Brenda Chipunga, was at the Harare Magistrates' Court charged with fraud, or contravening Section 136 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9.23.
Prosecutor Pardon Dziva charged that on November, 17 2022, Chipunga together with Tatenda Shaft Wakatama and Terrence Nyakatonje - who are still at large - lied to Enock Mungiriya that they were selling a 600-square metre commercial stand located at Rememberance Drive and Adbernnie Road, Mbare, in Harare.

The three, who were not the owners of the stand, wanted to defraud Mungiriya of his money.
According to the Harare City Council's comment that was dated on January 30, 2023, the land was neither sold nor leased to anyone which was proof that the trio had intentions to dupe Muringiya.
The lies by the three had a potential of prejudicing him of US$300 000.
Chipunga appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi who gave her a ZWL$200 000 bail consent and instructed her to appear in court on April 28. Coupled with that, she is to report to the nearest police station once a week.
