Hundreds of young people converged on Wedza yesterday as Youth Empowerment, Development, and Vocational Training Minister, Hon. Tino Machakaire, officially launched the 8th edition of the TINMAC Foundation Tournament.
The annual grassroots sports showcase brings together youth from across the district to foster discipline, teamwork, and healthy living as part of a ongoing campaign to combat drug and substance abuse.
The event attracted high-profile government figures, including Skills Audit and Development Minister, Hon. Dr. Jenfan Muswere, who served as Guest of Honour.
Also in attendance were Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Itayi Ndudzo, Cde Pupurai Togarepi, Chief Neruzane, Members of Parliament, and senior government officials.
Addressing the crowd, Hon. Machakaire said the initiative aims to offer young people constructive avenues for personal development:
"Our goal with the TINMAC Tournament is to send a clear message,our youth have a far greater purpose than falling victim to drugs and substance abuse. Sports give young people focus, health, and a sense of community."

Guest of Honourable Muswere announced that government will construct a modern Vocational Training Centre in Wedza to equip youth with practical skills.
"Sports create discipline, but actionable skills build futures. We are establishing a modern Vocational Training Centre right here in Wedza to ensure our young people transition from the sports field into sustainable, technical livelihoods," said Muswere.
He also commended Machakaire for taking direct action at the community level to keep young people away from substance abuse.
Government Chief Whip Pupurai Togarepi urged youth to access enterprise funding through EmpowerBank, highlighting that loans are available without traditional collateral requirements.
"Government has removed barriers to youth entrepreneurship through EmpowerBank, where young people can access business capital without collateral. However, beneficiaries must repay these loans so the funds can continuously revolve to help others," Togarepi said.
Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs Minister Hon. Itayi Ndudzo noted that hosting large-scale community events provides a strong defense line against youth dependency on harmful substances, while Chief Neruzane applauded the focus on rural development.
Community members and youth representatives expressed appreciation for the tournament, noting that such programs offer real opportunities for local growth and discipline.
