216 MPs Back CAB3 as It Heads to Senate

The National Assembly on Thursday passed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 after it secured the required two-thirds majority, paving the way for the proposed amendments to be considered by the Senate.

The Bill was approved by 216 Members of Parliament, while 42 voted against it. The outcome comfortably exceeded the 187 affirmative votes required in the 280-seat National Assembly for a constitutional amendment to pass.

Therefore the Hon Speaker has announced that CAB3 has been passed  by the National Assembly. Bill now awaits transmission to the Senate."

The Speaker of the National Assembly declared that the Bill had been adopted and would now be transmitted to the Senate for further consideration, in line with the legislative process for constitutional amendments.
