Korfball Awareness Tournament Brings Talent Hunt to Mbare

The Zimbabwe Korfball Federation (ZKF), in partnership with Zim Now, Shamwari Yemwanasikana, and Devine International Travel, will host the Korfball Awareness Tournament on 13 June 2026 at Stodart Netball Complex in Mbare.

The event, running from 0800hrs to 1600hrs, is free and open to the public and is expected to draw schools, clubs, and community teams from across Harare.

The tournament comes at a time when korfball continues to gain momentum in Zimbabwe as a sport that promotes gender equality, teamwork, and inclusion through its unique mixed-gender format.

Beyond awareness, the competition will double as a national talent identification platform where selectors will assess players for possible inclusion in the Zimbabwe Senior National Team and the Zimbabwe Under-19 side ahead of international engagements in Malawi.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, ZKF President Tarirai Chadebah said the event carries national significance.

“This is not just an awareness event. It is a serious talent identification platform. We are looking for disciplined, skilled, and committed players who can represent Zimbabwe with pride at the international level,” said Chadebah.

Organisers say the day will feature competitive matches, demonstration games, and community engagement programmes designed to introduce new players and spectators to korfball.

The federation believes the tournament will strengthen grassroots development and widen participation in schools and communities, creating a sustainable pipeline for future national teams.

With growing support from stakeholders and communities, the event is expected to play a key role in expanding the sport while reinforcing values of unity, respect, and cooperation.

Under the theme “Let’s Grow Korfball Together – Stronger Teams, Stronger Community,” the tournament is positioned as both a sporting showcase and a development milestone for Zimbabwe sport.
