
FC Wangu Mazodze head coach Elisha Mukusa has resigned from his position following a difficult start to the 2026 Eastern Region Soccer League campaign, leaving the Masvingo-based side searching for stability as it battles near the bottom of the table.
Mukusa tendered his resignation on 22 May while serving a suspension that had kept him away from the team's activities. In his resignation letter, the coach indicated that the prevailing circumstances had made it difficult for him to effectively manage both players and members of the technical team.
His departure comes at a challenging time for the Kingdom Boys, who currently occupy 13th position in the Eastern Region Soccer League standings with 10 points from 11 matches. The club has managed only two victories this season, alongside four draws and five defeats.

Mukusa oversaw eight league matches during his tenure this season, recording two wins, three draws and three losses. His suspension subsequently saw assistant coach Martin Nyanzira assume responsibility for the team, with Nyanzira guiding the side in four matches and collecting two draws while suffering two defeats.
FC Wangu Mazodze entered the 2026 season hoping to rebuild after a turbulent period off the field. The club's participation in the Eastern Region Soccer League was initially uncertain after it failed to meet affiliation fee deadlines, resulting in its omission from the original fixture list. However, the club later regularised its status and was readmitted before the season got underway. Reports at the time indicated that the club had faced financial challenges before securing its place in the league.
The Kingdom Boys, plays its home matches at Mucheke Stadium and has established itself as one of the ambitious clubs in the Eastern Region. The team is backed by United States-based businessman Richard Wangu Mazodze and has in recent years invested heavily in its quest to secure promotion to the Premier Soccer League.
Despite experiencing administrative and financial setbacks over the past two seasons, FC Wangu Mazodze has remained one of the most talked-about clubs in the region. In 2025, the club made headlines after withdrawing from the Eastern Region Soccer League amid disputes with league authorities before eventually returning to competition in 2026.
