
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has released the names of victims who died in a fatal road traffic accident involving an explosion along the Bulawayo–Beitbridge Road near Esigodini.
In a press statement issued on April 17, police confirmed that the accident occurred on April 16 at around 1245 hours at the 27-kilometre peg along the highway.
According to police, 12 people died after a Toyota Quantum carrying passengers exploded.
“The Police has established that 12 people were killed after a Toyota Quantum carrying 11 passengers exploded,” the statement reads.

Authorities said nine of the victims have so far been positively identified by their next of kin.
Police named the deceased as Thabani Moyo (37) of Old Lobengula, Nobuhle Mdlongwa (37) of Entumbane, Oscar Mdlongwa (44), Sicelesile Mabhena of Nkulumane 5, Sibuiso Mabhena (5) of Nkulumane 5, Mhlupeki Limkani Sibanda (36) of Nkulumane 5, Tedious Ncube, Precious Moyo (36) of Pumula North and Promise Brian Gabadela.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of nine of the 12 victims who were positively identified by their next of kin,” police said.
The bodies of the victims were taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
“The cause of the explosion is yet to be established. More details will be released in due course,” the police added.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the explosion are continuing.
