Takashinga Steps Off the Pitch to Support Community

Takashinga Cricket Club extended its impact beyond the cricket field on Saturday after donating essential food supplies to Chinyaradzo Children’s Home and Highfields Old People’s Home in an initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable members of the community.

The Highfields-based Takashinga Cricket Club, widely recognised as Zimbabwe’s largest Black-led cricket club, spent the day delivering food parcels and interacting with residents at both institutions.

The outreach formed part of the club’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the community that has long supported its sporting journey.

Leading the delegation was club chairperson Blessing Ngondo, accompanied by senior club representatives Eric Chauluka, Mr Muchochoma, and Mtandwa Ghanzi, popularly known in local sporting circles as “Ghanzi”. The group handed over donations that included bags of mealie meal, flour and cooking oil, as well as boxes of biscuits and other treats.

The visit brought smiles to residents at Chinyaradzo Children’s Home, where children welcomed both the supplies and the opportunity to spend time with visiting cricket officials. At Highfields Old People’s Home, elderly residents expressed gratitude for the donations and appreciated the time the club representatives spent engaging with them.

Ngondo said the club views community service as an essential responsibility alongside its sporting ambitions.

“Our responsibility as a club goes far beyond hitting boundaries and taking wickets on the cricket field,” he said. “It is equally about making a tangible difference in the lives of the most vulnerable members of our society.”
