CTC Extends Fibreboard Imports Probe

The Competition and Tariff Commission has extended its investigation into the importation of fibreboard into Zimbabwe as authorities assess the need for protective measures for the local industry.

In a general notice issued for 2026, the commission said the extension is being carried out in terms of the Competition (Safeguards) (Investigation) Regulations, 2006.

“It is hereby notified that the Investigating Authority has, in terms of section 14(2) of the Competition (Safeguards) (Investigation) Regulations, 2006, extended the investigation for remedial action in the form of a safeguard measure against the increased imports of fibreboard into Zimbabwe,” the notice reads.

The investigation stems from concerns over rising imports of fibreboard, which authorities say could be affecting domestic producers.

The commission indicated that the probe, initially published under General Notice 1414 of 2025, will now run from January 26, 2026 to March 26, 2026.

“…published in General Notice 1414 of 2025, with effect from 26 January 2026 to 26 March 2026,” the notice states.

The extension allows the commission to gather more evidence and assess whether safeguards such as tariffs or quotas may be necessary to protect the local industry from import surges.

The CTC said the investigation will inform a final determination on whether remedial action is required under Zimbabwe’s competition and trade regulations.
