Dynamos Football Club paid tribute to its former stars by inviting club legends to attend their highly anticipated league clash against Highlanders, marking what is believed to be the first time the club has formally honoured its past players during a match day.
Among those invited was former Dynamos striker Ralph Kaondera, who expressed gratitude to the club’s leadership for recognising the contribution of former players and bringing them back to witness the team in action.
“I want to thank the Dynamos executive, Dynamos chairman Vincent Chawonza and Divine Sena for inviting us as Dynamos legends to watch their matches,” said Kawondera.
Several former Dynamos players attended the encounter at Rufaro Stadium, including Simon Tshuma, Tawanda Muparati, Philip Sithole, Eliot Matsika, Romeo Kabesha, Patrick Khumbula, Brighton Tuwana and Gift Bhelo.
The Glamour Boys went on to draw 2–2 with their long-time rivals Highlanders in an entertaining derby that attracted a large crowd. Despite the stalemate, Kaondera said the legends were impressed by the determination shown by the current squad.

“We are very happy with the performance shown today by the players. They showed us good character,” he said.
The performance also delighted Dynamos’ medical partner, Crown Pharmacy, which is one of the club’s corporate stakeholders. Crown Pharmacies director George Nyamayaro said the team’s display and the atmosphere at Rufaro Stadium reinforced the strength of the Dynamos brand.
“I’m thrilled by the performance of the boys and as a partner it gives us that boost and confidence in how big a brand Dynamos is,” Nyamayaro said.
He also praised the turnout of supporters, noting that the stadium was filled with fans who came to witness one of Zimbabwe’s biggest football rivalries.
“Everyone saw Rufaro filled and people came in their numbers to witness this derby, and it tells you that this is the derby of the nation,” said Nyamayaro.
