Junior Banisi Earns Caps United Call-Up for Malawi Tour

Promising young striker Junior Banisi has taken a major step in his football journey after earning an assessment opportunity with Caps United, with the club including the 18-year-old in its travelling squad for a pre-season tour of Malawi last Friday.

Banisi, who plays as a centre forward, is not only making waves on the pitch but also excelling academically. He is a school prefect at Prince Edward School and a product of the PE Lions Football Academy, where he has been developed under the guidance of coach Taruvinga.

Speaking on Banisi’s footballing qualities, Taruvinga described him as a rare talent. “He is a very promising, ambidextrous player who is also strong in the air. His growth has been steady rather than rapid, but that gradual development points towards a long and successful career in the game,” he said.

The academy coach also highlighted Banisi’s character off the pitch, praising his discipline and leadership. “He is a well-disciplined boy, academically sound, and stands out as a school prefect at Prince Edward School.

He is respected by his peers and is responsible both on and off the field. He is very coachable, determined, and a pleasure to have in the team,” Taruvinga added.

The 2026 season has been a productive one for PE Lions Football Academy, with several players progressing into competitive football. Junior Banisi and Blessed Zvinodavanhu were released this season, with Zvinodavanhu securing a move to Zebra Revolution FC in the Southern Region Division One.

Meanwhile, Alexio Agostino and Tanaka Meza are currently on trial with Ferroviário de Beira, while Idaneki Matsiwe has joined Chingwere FC in the Northern Region Division One.
