Player Unrest Hits Mposa Before Independence Day Clash

Herentals Queens Football Club have been selected to play against Mpopoma Sports Academy in an  s exhibition match scheduled for Zimbabwe’s Independence Day celebrations in Matobo.

The match was confirmed during the post-Cabinet briefing on Tuesday, where it was announced that the 2025 Zimbabwe Women’s Premier League (ZWPL) champions, Herentals Queens, will take on Mpopoma Sports Academy, popularly known as Mposa, as part of the Children’s Party festivities.

However, the announcement has come at a time of growing tension within the Mpopoma Sports Academy camp. With sources   indicating that disagreements have intensified between players and club management over transfer issues and conditions of service.

Several players have accused the club of blocking potential moves despite not receiving any form of payment. One player, who spoke to ZimnowSports, said there were clubs interested in signing them, but Mposa was refusing to negotiate transfers.

“We have clubs which are interested in signing us, but Mposa refuses to negotiate for transfers yet we are not getting paid,” said the player.

The situation has been further compounded by concerns over player welfare during the 2025 season.

Mpopoma reportedly failed to provide adequate accommodation for players during a recent away match in Harare. The team was allegedly forced to spend the night at a girls’ high school hostel, a facility said to have lacked basic bedding and blankets, despite it being winter.
