ZIFA appoints Ndlovu, Grobbelaar, Mwaruwari and Moyo as official football ambassadors

The Zimbabwe Football Association has named four national icons — Peter Ndlovu, Bruce Grobbelaar, Benjani Mwaruwari and Nomsa “Boys” Moyo — as the first-ever official ZIFA Football Ambassadors, in a move aimed at rebuilding the country’s football image and strengthening global engagement.

The appointments were endorsed at the association’s Executive Committee meeting on 2 November 2025.

ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi said the four “symbolise what is possible when talent meets dedication and national pride,” adding that their new roles would include global representation, mentorship, and supporting football development pathways.

The quartet represents different eras of Zimbabwean football excellence:

  • Peter Ndlovu, the first African to play in the English Premier League and widely regarded as the country’s greatest export.
  • Bruce Grobbelaar, Liverpool legend and 1980 AFCON winner, whose global stature continues to anchor Zimbabwe’s football identity.
  • Benjani Mwaruwari, former Manchester City striker and founder of the Benjani Mwaruwari Academy, one of the country’s most influential youth development initiatives.
  • Nomsa “Boys” Moyo, a trailblazer in the women’s game and a long-time advocate for girls’ football development.

The move is part of a broader ZIFA strategy to professionalise structures, rebuild trust with fans and sponsors, and accelerate youth development ahead of the next competitive cycle for the Warriors and Mighty Warriors.

The ambassadors are expected to play a critical role in rebranding Zimbabwean football and restoring its regional and international standing.
