The famous Dynamos football team is going through a tough time in the 2025 season, fighting to avoid relegation. But amidst this struggle, a new chapter begins today in the Chibuku Super Cup, a tournament they have won for two years in a row. They now have a chance to make history by becoming the first team to win the cup three times in a row.
Despite their success in the cup, their poor league performance means they must start in the preliminary round—a position usually for struggling teams. They will face Yadah at Ngoni Stadium. For a club with so much history, this is a difficult situation.
But the cup offers more than just a trophy; it's a chance for redemption. For a club battling to stay in the league with only 10 matches left, this tournament is an opportunity to save some pride and give their loyal fans something to cheer about.
Interim coach Takesure Chinyama said, "We are running two races at the same time. We want to defend our Chibuku Super Cup and at the same time survive relegation."
The team's spirit is high after a much-needed victory over MWOS FC. Chinyama believes his team is ready for the challenge. "The game has also come at the right time because we are coming from a victory and the morale in the camp is so high, everyone will be ready to fight for the Dynamos badge," he said.
The financial rewards are also a big motivator. The total prize money for the tournament is US$375,000, with the winner receiving US$75,000 and a spot in the next Caf Confederation Cup. This money could be a vital boost for the club.
Chinyama is fully aware of the pressure and the opportunity. "We also have to be cautious because we are the defending champions, we will put everything on the line because we want to defend our title," he said. "We defended it last year, we would want to defend it again and make history. We are happy that we have no injuries and everyone is ready to go."
