The UN-Women Executive Board is on a field visit to Zimbabwe, consolidating the agency’s transformative work advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.
“This visit underscores our commitment to fostering collaboration and driving impactful initiatives that advance gender equality not just in Zimbabwe, but globally,” stated a UN-Women spokesperson.
This hands-on mission running from today (May 4) to May 10, aims to align UN-Women’s programs with Zimbabwe’s development goals while addressing systemic challenges faced by women regionally.
The visit will spotlight how UN-Women’s initiatives—from policy advocacy to community partnerships—are driving progress in line with Zimbabwe’s national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Key focuses include strengthening national ownership of programs, fostering strategic alliances, and sharing scalable solutions for global replication.
Agenda Highlights
High-Level Dialogues: Meetings with government leaders to reinforce collaboration on women’s rights and economic inclusion.
Grassroots Engagement: Site visits to projects empowering women through education, entrepreneurship, and climate resilience.
Youth & CSO Consultations: Dynamic roundtables with activists, private sector players, and diplomats to amplify local voices.
Progress Check: Assessing reforms under the UN’s development system, including joint programming with the UN Country Team.
A comprehensive report with actionable recommendations will be presented to the Executive Board, shaping future strategies to accelerate women’s empowerment worldwide.
The UN Working Group on discrimination against Women and Girls will also conduct a country visit to Zimbabwe in the third quarter of 2025 in order to gain firsthand understanding of issues related to discrimination against women and girls and gender equality, including efforts made and remaining challenges.
