The Shurugwi-Boterekwa road, a critical lifeline for the mining town of Shurugwi in Zimbabwe, is on the brink of collapse. This road, known for its scenic serpentine curves, is now a site of growing concern as sections threaten to cave in, potentially creating hazardous potholes that endanger motorists.

Shurugwi, famed for its rich gold deposits, has a history intertwined with mining activities, both legal and illegal. This mining, while vital to the local economy, has created an alarming underground network of tunnels and shafts, some of which now extend beneath the road. The unchecked digging has destabilized the ground beneath the surface, compromising the structural integrity of this crucial route.

The combination of underground mining and heavy traffic could lead to catastrophic cave-ins, posing severe risks to lives and vehicles. Additionally, the road's degradation threatens to disrupt economic activities in Shurugwi and surrounding areas, given its importance for transporting goods and connecting communities
