The delimitation report which was presented to President Emmerson Mnangagwa late last year by the Zimbabwe Election Commission chairperson, Priscilla Chigumba, and was subsequently forwarded for consideration by an ad hoc committee, will now be debated in parliament beginning Friday, January 13.

After having received the report, the President submitted the report to parliament where a committee comprising 13 members from Zanu PF, MDC and CCC was appointed as per the constitution to look into it. This happened at a time business of the August house had been adjourned, and is set to resume on Friday.

The ad hoc committee chairperson who is also the chief whip of Zanu PF, Pupurai Togarepi, confirmed the developments saying:

“We sat to look at the report and invited members of parliament to bring their concerns and observations of the report. We also looked at the technical part. We invited a consultant and experts on geographical boundaries. By end of the day Wednesday we will have put together views and analysis of the report.”

There have been varying sentiments pertaining to the report with some sectors of the political fraternity questioning its validity, especially against the background that seven ZEC commissioners have distanced themselves from it.

Recently, one Tonderai Chidawa approached the courts to have it disregarded, arguing through legal representative Lovemore Madhuku that it did not bear the interests of the entire commission, but those of the chairperson and her deputy.
