An official of ZimBorders Consortium was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly facilitated the passage of two commercial trucks through the Beitbridge Border Post without paying US$400 border access fees.
Sean Nyatsvimbo (27), an employee of ZimBorders was charged of criminal abuse of office after he received a bribe for facilitating the passage of the two trucks, according to National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

“We suspect he connived with the truck drivers and customs clearing agents after receiving some kickbacks. We strongly suspect that they were operating as a syndicate,” he said.
Commercial trucks accessing the border are required to pay US$200.
The ZimBorders Consortium secured nearly US$300 million for the upgrade and modernisation of Beitbridge Border Post under a build-operate and transfer (BOT) arrangement with government and is expected to recoup its money through collection of border access fees.
It has a 17 and half years’ operating concession period.
