Investment projects a reflection of relations between Zim and China

China and Zimbabwe have enjoyed years of partnership with the government and private companies from the Asian giant investing heavily in Zimbabwe, Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, professor Amon Murwira has said.

Speaking at The People’s Republic of China’s 74th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China held at Celebration Centre in Harare today, Prof Murwira, who is also Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development spoke of Chinese investment in different sectors of the Zimbabwean economy.

Minister Murwira mentioned some of the projects carried out by the Chinese in the country which includes the Hwange thermal power station expansion, rehabilitation of the Kariba South Hydro-Electric Plant, the renovation of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, the New Parliament Building and the expansion of NetOne which is still in process.

Minister Murwira said China availed Covid-19 vaccines.

China, the Minister said, has invested in the Manhize Steel Plant between Mvuma and Chivhu, Kariba South Hydro, Hwange Power Station Unit 7 and 8, several investments in the extractive sector, particularly  lithium mining, irrigation equipment especially in tobacco farming which have helped improve livelihoods of the people in general.

Speaking at the same event, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhua Ding said Zimbabwe had exceptional hospitality, adding that China will continue to world closely with Zimbabwe on a win-win basis.

The event also had performances from Chinese artists who shocased Chinese music and instruments.

The People’s Republic of China and Zimbabwe have enjoyed cordial relations which date back to the liberation struggle.
