Zim-born actress gets prominent role in Jada-Pinkett-Smith drama series

UK-based actress Chipo Kureya-Curran has been cast as a supporting actress in Njinga, an African-warrior-queen drama series from American producer Jada Pinkett-Smith which premieres on February 15.

The Netflix series is a docuseries exploring the lives of iconic African queens starting with Cleopatra and Queen Njinga.

The series Njinga explores the reign of a complex and fearless warrior queen of Ndongo and Matamba, in modern day Angola and the nation’s first female ruler who earned a reputation for her blend of political and diplomatic skill with military prowess and so became an icon of resistance.

Kureya is an actress working on stage and on screen and is also is the founder of Bantu Creatives.

She is known for her role in A Midnight Summer Night’s Dream, 2019, Top Boy, 2011 and KuVina, 2020 and her most recent portrayal of Winnie Mandela in a touring production of Free Mandela.
