Beitbridge-based football club Vhembe Stars is quickly establishing itself as one of the most promising sides in the Central Region Soccer League, earning admiration for its professionalism, organisation and clear long-term vision.
Founded in 2023, the club has already captured the attention of football followers across the region despite competing in Division One. From improved player welfare to an attractive brand of football, supporters believe Vhembe Stars are redefining standards for community clubs and helping reshape the image of lower league football.
Club manager Kelvin Mukunga said the team’s ultimate ambition is to earn promotion into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League and represent Beitbridge at the highest level of Zimbabwean football.
“Our ambition is to play in the PSL and represent Beitbridge football at the highest level,” said Mukunga.
Supporters who watched Vhembe Stars face Grain Tigers in Kwekwe recently praised the club’s professionalism, saying its operations already resemble those of a top-flight side.
“Vhembe Stars is one of the clubs to watch. It is very organised despite playing in the lower league. The way they care for their players is impressive,” said football fan Petros Nhambu.
Another supporter, Mai Sharon, highlighted the club’s commitment to player welfare.
“The club dresses its players well and provides proper food. It shows that football development is important to them,” she said.

Beyond its off-field organisation, the team has also gained recognition for its entertaining style of play. Fans have been drawn to Vhembe Stars’ possession-based approach, quick passing combinations and attacking football, with even rival supporters admitting admiration for the side.
“I support Sabi Gold Mine, but the football played by Vhembe Stars is entertaining. Their passing and attacking play is very good,” said Justice Magaga.
The youthful squad, whose oldest player is aged 23, includes recruits from different parts of the country, including Harare. Mukunga revealed that some players relocated to Beitbridge and are currently accommodated at the club’s clubhouse as part of its long-term development project.
“Some players came from as far as Harare to join the club and they are staying at our clubhouse,” he said.
Despite the growing praise, Vhembe Stars have recently faced challenges in front of goal and are on a three-match losing run that has slowed their early momentum. Head coach Blessing Madombi, however, remains optimistic about the team’s progress.
“As far as the style of play is concerned, we are progressing well, although the defeats are painful,” said Madombi. “There are some areas we need to improve on, but we remain positive going forward.”
Beitbridge has previously produced top-flight clubs such as Border Strikers, Triple B and Underhill. Border Strikers notably won the Central Region Division One title in 2015 to secure promotion into the Premier Soccer League the following season, marking one of the town’s proudest football achievements.
Although Border Strikers were relegated after their maiden PSL campaign, their promotion demonstrated the potential of Beitbridge football.
Should Vhembe Stars achieve promotion, they would become the latest club to carry the border town’s hopes onto the national stage and further strengthen Beitbridge’s growing reputation in Zimbabwean football.
